Photo blog: Yellow Doors Hostel

Hello, Yellow!

The moment I stepped inside the Yellow Door, I felt home straightaway. This is exactly what I’m looking for – chill, comfy and hip vibe, in the heart of Tacloban! Every corner is bursting with creativity; they have comfy beds, functional rooms, quirky and colorful decor. It’s a mix of rustic and bohemian! You can play vinyl records in the common area and they serve cold beers too!

Kalanggaman Island: Leyte’s Paradise

We spent our 3rd anniversary under the stars, inside our tent in this beautiful paradise and I’m glad we did! Even if it took us 2 hours and a half of bumpy roads and an hour boat ride to get here, it was all worthwhile.

Kalanggaman Island is located in the municipality of Palompon, Leyte. I’d say our lucky stars were guiding us throughout our trip and made our  last minute decision to stay overnight all possible. We left Tacloban at around 1pm in the afternoon, which was supposed to be a bus trip to Ormoc, we opted for a taxi instead. We’re very lucky to have met a very kind taxi driver, Kuya Dodong, who was very willing to drive us for 2 hours to Palompon. He took the fastest route so we can catch the boat before 5PM. We arrived at the Eco Tourism office at 3PM, we waited for another 2 hours so we can join a group to get to the Island. Sir Archie and Revelyn of the Eco Tourism office were very accommodating and able to work it out with the coast guard to to let us sail even if it was pass 5 o’clock. It’s best to book your reservation ahead to prevent the hassle of waiting during peak season.

This marvelous scenic view of the sunset welcomed us. It instantly took all the stresses away!

I cannot think of a better way to celebrate our anniversary than sleeping under the stars in the middle of paradise 🙂

6AM – view of dawn

The other side of the sand bar – we had it all to ourselves 🙂

Kalanggaman made our anniversary very meaningful. Who would’ve thought I could manage to survive camping overnight?! 🙂 It definitely gave us a whole new experience as a couple.
